Founder and Conductor ED MANGUIAT has led the internationally-acclaimed University of the Philippines Singing Ambassadors (UPSA, 1980) for 44 years.
His choir is a 2-time EUROPEAN GRAND PRIX (EGP) Finalist
(2002 and 2019), and 2-time Grand Prize Winner of the most prestigious
“Concorso Polifonico Internazionale Guido d’Arezzo” (2001 and 2018), considered the Olympics of choral singing.
Greatly influenced by the late ERIC ERICSON of Sweden and Filipino National Artist for Music ANDREA VENERACION of the Madrigal Singers, Ed and UPSA have earned for the University and our country 8 Grand Prizes and 36 First Prizes in 26 international choral competitions, in ITALY, FRANCE, HUNGARY, GERMANY, SPAIN, BELGIUM, POLAND, CZECH REPUBLIC, SLOVAKIA, BULGARIA, The NETHERLANDS, UK, and SWITZERLAND.
About
Ed has received 3 Conductor’s Awards - in the 2nd JOHANNES BRAHMS International Choir Competition in GERMANY (2001), in the 2nd ANDREA del VERROCCHIO Choir Festival in ITALY (2018) and the Special Prize for Excellent Conducting Performance in the 25th BELA BARTOK International Choral Competition in Debrecen, HUNGARY (2008).
A product of the U.P. College of Music, he has collaborated with four (4) National Artists — LUCIO SAN PEDRO, BIENVENIDO LUMBERA, VIRGILIO ALMARIO and RYAN CAYABYAB — either as composer or as lyricist.
In May 2015, he was conferred the honorary degree of Doctor of Music, honoris causa by the Philippine Commission on Higher Education (CHED).
